Swedish antique early 1900s oil on canvas, showing a wild hare in snow

Wonderful oil on canvas showing a happy and free spirited hare running through the snow. A painting to raise the spirits, created using soft muted tones and painted with a clever hand which deceptively creates a feeling of the hare's naivety as it runs through the tall evergreen forest.

Signed and dated 1923.

Created by the Swedish painter William Gislander (1890 – 1937).  Gislander was born August 7, 1890 in Fleninge.   His parents were farmers and he studied art under Nils Fosberg in Helsinborg and then at the Technical Academy in Copenhagen.  He lived in Denmark for ten years and often visited the Faroe Islands and Falsterbo, on the southern most tip of Sweden.  Gislander was primarily a wildlife artist, who's work captured the spirit and movement of the animals he painted.  He died on January 10, 1937 in Vetlanda.

His work is represented in Malmo, Falsterbo, Kristianstad and Landskrona Museums, as well as in Crhistiansborg Castle.

Condition ~
The painting is in good antique condition, it has a contemporary frame.
