Set of 6 majolica water lily Asparagus Plate by Keller et Guerin Saint Clement

A set of six glazed ceramic majolica asparagus plates. Designed with the raised relief of a white water lily, and bud designs which have been hand painted in soft pastel colours these plates are wonderful decorative items with a strong Art Nouveau influence. It is rare to find a collection of 6 plates and these are no longer in production.
History ~ 1900, unsigned but produced by Keller et Guerin Saint Clement, France.
The Saint-Clément factory was founded in 1758 by Jacques Chambrette, who already owned a factory in near by Lunéville. The new factory was opened with the intention of producing higher quality earthenware, and it soon became a prestigious producer, supplying Marie-Antoinette, amongst others. Following his death in 1758, until 1763, the factories were run by Chambrette’s son Gabriel and other shareholders. Eventually the Lunéville factory went bankrupt and in 1786 it was bought by Sebastien Keller. In 1832 the son of Sebastien Keller and his brother in law, Guérin, became the owners of the Lunéville pottery and in 1892 they also took over Saint-Clément, initiating the famous pottery mark – K & G St-Clément. During this later period production processes were considerably industrialised and expanded. In 1922 Edouard Fenal, who already owned an earthenware factory in Badonviller, took over both factories.
Condition ~ Good antique condition, no chips or cracks. There are some tiny marks from the firing in some of the plates.
