Portrait of John the Baptist
Very large oil on canvas of John the Baptist with a raven at his side. Wonderfully atmospheric painting, full of decorative appeal.
History ~ Mid 19th century, France, on a later stretcher.
Condition ~ There are many small areas of paint loss but the canvas is intact. The canvas has been nailed onto a later stretcher and the stretcher is visible around the edges of the canvas. However this does not detract from the appeal of the work.
