Oil on canvas, showing a French Pope with his hand raised offering a blessing. He is dressed in papal robes with a luxurious red cape embroidered in gold over his white cassock. An unusual and distinctive painting.
History ~ Circa 1880, France.
Condition ~ Some signs of wear to the canvas, it has been supported on the reverse in order to stop holes from forming. The painting would benefit from being cleaned as it has a varnish/heavy gloss coating visible in places. Unframed.
