Pair of mid century antique Kurt Wendler for Edelstein white Vases
£ 160.00
A wonderful pair of mid-century antique white glossy gemstone porcelain vases, featuring relief silhouettes of men, women, children and musicians. This iconic design blends Art Deco modernism with classical influences to produce clean lines, a simple palette, and a subtle sculptural form.
History ~ Designed by Kurt Wendler for Porzellanfabrik Edelstein in 1957, the vases are entitled 'Paradise'.
Wendler was born in 1893 and was a talented and diverse German artist, working in porcelain but also as a graphic designer and photographer. Porzellanfabrik Edelstein was established in Bavaria by Julius Edelstein in 1919 and became renowned for its high-quality porcelain productions. Tragically Edelstein died at the hands of the Nazis in 1941. After World War II the factory resumed operations and produced notable designs throughout the 1950s and 1960s, with production ending in 1974.
Condition ~ Good antique condition, very little sign of usage.
