A charming and tender pair of antique French watercolours under glass of “Mila” – an adorable lurcher curled up asleep - completely relaxed, a faithful companion at rest. This pose adds a sense of intimacy and atmosphere, we feel Mila must have been sleeping there just under the artist’s feet as they sketched away and we sense the warmth and strong affection there is for this pet. Each work is annotated - one reads “Mila (attentive le réveil qui sonne- hears the alarm clock ringing)” and the other “Mila (dans un profond sommeil - in a deep sleep)”. We glimpse the normal day to day life of this lurcher and her owner. The works are well sketched using a delicate combination of watercolours painted in soft earthy reds and sepia tones with expressive line work and subtle shading added in ink, which gives texture and presence to Mila - and goes towards creating this lovely pair of decorative antiques paintings.
