Large mid century oil painting - of a nude bather

Large oil on canvas showing the back of a nude woman who is considering dipping into a natural pond.

Full of atmosphere and charm the painting is captivating, we get a sense of her anticipation and an idea about her personality in her bright red sandals, so typical of this period.  Painted with a confident brush stoke and a strong admiration for this woman's wonderful form and profile.

Signed and dated Fritz Kärfve, 1945, Sweden.

Fritz Edvard Kärfve – was born 12 September 1880 in Malmö, St. Petri parish, Sweden and died 15 October 1967 in Malmö St. Petri parish.

By the age of 14 Kärfve began training as a decorative painter under Edmond Stoltz whilst also attending technical evening school where he learned how to draw sketches. In 1899, Kärfve joined the prestigious Konstnärsförbundets Art School in Stockholm. In late 1903 he moved to Paris, where he studied at the the Académie Colarossi, returning to Malmö in 1906. He continued to travel visting Copenhagen, Holland, Belgium and Italy.

Fritz Kärfve is known as a portrait painter, also creating group scenes with a variety of people and large figure compositions. He has also painted nudes, harbour scenes and landscapes. He is represented in the National Museum in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Art Museum in Gothenburg and the Kalmar Art Museum and Malmö Art Museum, Malmö.

Condition ~
Excellent condition, colours are bright and vivid, light wear consistent with age and normal usage. Later frame.
