Large antique folk art tine or svapask Wooden Box

Attractive antique treen box, with remnants of an original painted folk art design visible on both sides and the top. The wood has acquired a lovely dark patina. This box is constructed from a thin piece of birch which was bent into shape using steam, with a lovely intricate lace design at the front. The lid is secured via a simple mechanism - pushing the plug releases the lid to enable it to be lifted off. The lid is therefore secure on the box.
History ~ Late 19th century, Sweden. These boxes were often used to transport and store food, many were used by farmers and were decorated by their wives.
