Era Art Pottery Art Deco Jug

£ 120.00
A decorative ceramic jug with a well-proportioned shape and ribbed silhouette. The base glaze is in a warm ochre-gold tone with subtle mottling, which creates an overall sandy texture.  The jug has then been hand-painted with a darker pattern to accentuate the rim, then large red and orange flowers to the upper middle section and a classic 1930s pattern to the lower section.  In some ways this jug is similar in design to the more sought after Clarice Cliff antique ceramics.

History ~
There are remnants on the base of the original paper label from Era Art Pottery.  This was a British company that marketed ware under its own name and was also a decorating house owned by S Fielding & Co (known as Crown Devon Pottery) and was based in Stoke-on-Trent, and the jug is impress stamped.  Era Art Pottery mostly stopped producing in 1940, following the outbreak of World War II, although they did not actually cease trading until 1947. Their work is mainly associated with the 1930s and Art Deco styles.

Condition ~
No chips or cracks, lots of wear to the hand painted decoration, as shown in the images.
