Decorative antique French Normandy Marriage Box
An appealing decorative antique marriage or wedding box with large naively painted flowers, which have been painted on to an indigo background. The box is edged with a delicate hand painted line using a warm yellow. The whole has acquired a good patina and the colour combinations are very pleasing.
History ~ 19th century, Normandy, France.
Condition ~ There is a split to the domed top of the box, however it is robust and there is no fragility or movement to the frame. The bottom section of the back has also been replaced, as shown in the images. Original hinges and front lock.
