A hand crafted and decorative antique rustic pot with two handles, in a rich warm clay terracotta tone - Mediterranean simplicity and utilitarian purpose combine with a strong visual presence. The surface retains its original slipware finish in places, but has been exposed to the elements to create an exceptional mottled patina in warm red-orange clay tones with the underlying charcoal mineral deposits visible - creating a unique painterly and highly textured effect. Adding to its authentic appeal and vernacular charm - the pot is hand-thrown and rather misshapen, not circular or oval in design, please see images.
History ~
Late 19th century, South of France. Originally used for domestic storage of kitchen foods.
Condition ~
Good antique condition, no chips or cracks. Lots of wear to the surface, as shown.
