Antique oil painting - 'Nude in Mirror' by Philippe de Rougemount

£ 820.00
A wonderfully atmospheric large oil on canvas by the listed artist Philippe de Rougemont. He was heavily influenced by both Belle Époque traditions and Scandinavian modernism - with elements from both these movements evident is this work. This painting captures the coquettish personality of the woman admiring herself in her bedroom mirror. The painting has been skilfully draughted - her raised arm and the position of the mirror and background objects all draw the viewer in. The use of light and reflection further create an atmosphere of intimacy, we feel we are in the room with her sharing her delight in her own body. The woman is not a static figure to be admired but rather a real woman briming with personality, attitude and spirit and we feel this emotional resonance to her. In many ways this painting is typical of de Rougemont's artistic style - traditional figurative art but the sitter is bought alive and the work has a dynamic modern edge. His works stand out for their vibrancy and engagement. Interest in his work is gently growing and currently he is an undervalued artist.

There is a business card (present with the painting when purchased) included.
