This portrait has a great deal of presence and the sitter's facial expression and body language show that she is strong and characterful, we wonder about her life, did she perhaps own a patisserie? or work as the cook in a large Manoir? or perhaps she was a rural farm wife? The painting is simply executed and full of decorative appeal.
