A wonderful decorative antique lightly hammered copper tray, which has acquired a good soft colour over many years. Hand made in Joseph Heinrichs's workshop it is simply designed, but yet distinctive and of good quality, and as such, highly sought after.
History ~ Circa 1910, USA.
Joseph Heinrichs (born February 23, 1866) and often known as Jos Heinrich, was a German-American metalworker. He opened his firm in 1897 in New York and succeeded in creating a thriving business selling in both New York and Paris. During this time his work was retained almost exclusively by luxury firms such as Tiffany & Co and he was one of the most prominent copper manufacturers of the period. However by 1937 his business had ended in bankruptcy.
Today his work is highly sought after and collected, and is on show at prestigious venues such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Museum of American Arts and Crafts Movement, amongst others.
