Antique hand painted Trade Sign in original condition
£ 420.00
A late 19th century French antique artisan’s trade sign, hand painted in a strong and refined serif lettering. Using warm gold ochre lettering which has now acquired a decorative craquelure and is offset against a darker charcoal painted background - that has also softened over time. The matured surface has a naturally aged patina with areas of gentle wear, surface abrasions, and subtle paint changes, and the typography is well proportioned, with the lettering sitting well within the shape of the sign and it’s softly rounded ends. This decorative antique sign has character and visual graphic impact, it is a piece of French provincial city life, typical of signs used by ateliers at this time, with authenticity and antique heritage, and is increasingly hard to find.
