Antique garden cast iron and glass pyramid top Cloche
A decorative and attractive garden antique, with good patina and wear to the cast iron frame. Formed with a glass square base and pyramid shaped top. This mini glass house is also a practical and useful gardening tool - protecting young plants from cold and inclement Spring weather and at the same time warming the soil beneath it to enable advanced planting. Equally they are used inside as decorative features and terrariums.
History ~ Circa 1900.
Named after their original French circular domed or bell-shaped counterparts. Cast iron cloches were particularly popular during the Victorian era.
Condition ~ Good antique condition, strong and ready to use. Two panes of glass have been carefully replaced, traditionally secured with putty. This cloche has original, or very old replacement clips holding the frame in place, which is quite rare.
