Antique French 19th century brevete Trifold or Triptych Vanity Wall Mirror

A chic and decorative antique trifold or triptych dressing mirror, with three pieces of glass, the two outer of which can be folded inwards, so that the mirror could be easily transported. Such mirrors were originally intended to hang on the wall to aid shaving, although it can also be used standing on a dressing table. This three fold or triple mirror is set into a wooden fame which has been elaborately decorated and has now acquired a wonderful faded and worn patina.
History ~ Late 1800s, France. The brass clasp on the mirror is marked 'Brevete SGDG (an abbreviation for Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement) patented 1876'. The translation of this is - 'Patented Without government guarantee'. This was a patent which existed between 1850 and 1968.
Condition ~ There are some chips to the original mercury glass, as shown in the images, and there is wear to the reverse of the mirror.
