Two antique cushions in pure wool tweed, which has been woven in a finely detailed herringbone pattern. This pattern skillfully blends shades of moss green and honey with flecks of charcoal and rust to create a richly textured and tactile surface with both substance and softness. Tweed fabrics were prized for both their complex colour combinations and textured surfaces. These antique cushions incorporate multiple high quality dyed yarns to produce the distinctive flecked and heathered effect that makes them so attractive.

History ~
Early 1900s.
Tweed, which is a tightly woven wool cloth, is associated with rural parts of Britain and Ireland where it was developed to withstand the harsh weather and at the same time give warmth and durability. By the 19th century tweed had become the 'go to' fabric for smart country pursuits and the social events that accompanied, well known and admired for its understated elegance.
Condition ~
Good antique condition, identical reverse pattern with a concealed zip at the base. The cushion has been professionally reinforced to add extra rigidity to the wool weave.
Measurements ~
When laid flat, before inserting the pad, each cushion is 19" or 48 cm at the widest point and is then filled with a 22" or 56 cm feather pad.
