Antique copper Arts & Crafts Coal Scuttle with matching Shovel & Shovel Compartment
£ 360.00
An antique copper Arts & Crafts coal scuttle and matching shovel, elegantly designed with ornate wrought iron filigree detailing to both the handle of the scuttle and shovel, in the manner of Christoper Dresser. The copper has acquired a good patina over many years.
Condition ~ Some dents and marks to the copper, as shown in the images.
History ~ Manufactured by Henry Loveridge in Wolverhampton. The company was founded in 1840, quickly established itself as one of the largest japanners in the country during the 19th century. Initially specializing in japanware made from papier mache and tin, Loveridge's adapted to the changing market by expanding into copper and brassware as the demand for japanning declined. The company ceased operations in 1927, marking the end of an era for Loveridge's and its legacy in the industry.
