Antique ceramic 19th century Imari Plate

This beautiful antique ceramic Imari plate is made from porcelain with a scalloped or fluted edge and a slightly raised foot. It is a wonderful example of Japanese craftsmanship using the traditional vibrant colour palette of a deep cobalt blue underglaze with a rich overglaze of madder red and soft peach, with hints of mint green. It has been delicately and expertly hand painted with various exotic flowers and is a wonderful decorative antique.
History ~
Circa 1880 – 1900, Japan.
The port of Imari in Kyushu, in the Arita region of Japan, started exporting porcelain to Europe in the mid 1600s. By the Meiji period - (1868–1912) Japanese Imari was highly sought after across Europe, desired for its bold colouring and decorative appeal. Plates such as this were produced both for export and for the domestic market, often in traditional patterns inspired by earlier Edo period designs.
Condition ~
Good antique condition, no cracks or chips. Minor surface wear to the enamels and light kiln or glaze irregularities typical of hand-painted porcelain.
