Antique Arts & Crafts copper Charger with Celtic Revival Motifs

£ 220.00
A decorative antique copper charger in an ornate design.  The central feature is a raised design based on a traditional Celtic triskelion - or triple spiral motif.  (This is an ancient symbol dating back to the Neolithic era symbolising natural cycles and universal motion.  For example, the three triplicities are used to symbolise Land, Sea and Sky or Birth, Life and Death).  Around the deep lip of the charger are further ornate and interlinked repoussé scrollwork patterns, offset against a hand-hammered surface.  Over many years the copper surface has developed a mature patina, softening the colour of the copper and enabling a natural verdigris to form in the recesses of the design.
