£ 280.00

This velvet top occasional table has been recovered in Designers Guild purple upholstery fabric and retains the original studs around the tabletop edge.
History ~
Aesthetic Movement (circa 1870–1900)
The Aesthetic Movement was a short-lived but influential design and cultural trend in Britain, advocating ‘art for art’s sake’. ‘Gypsy Tables’ fitted well into this bohemian group as they were striking and decorative. They were used for parlour games or fortune telling - such as palm and tarot readings, which were popular in the more liberal of Victorian homes.
