A large scale decorative Royal Doulton stamped salt-glazed stoneware vase. Designed with wonderful warm amber and cinnamon colours and created in a natural leaf foliage design, this was one of Royal Doulton's signature decorative ceramics. It is often referred to as 'Autumn Foliage Ware' or 'Autumn Leaf', although it was not a specific design. Each piece, although a uniform size and shape, was unique - as it was decorated using leaf impressions which were pressed into the clay and then hand painted freestyle.
History ~
Impressed marks to base and incised monogram J H. This is the pottery signature of Joan Honey, who was a decorator at Doulton, and who would have painted this piece in 1928. Each of the artists had their own unique signature in order to mark their pieces.
