A pair of decorative Royal Doulton stamped salt-glazed stoneware cylindrical vases. Designed with wonderful warm amber and cinnamon colours and created in a natural leaf foliage design, this was one of Royal Doulton's signature decorative ceramics. It is often referred to as 'Autumn Foliage Ware' or 'Autumn Leaf', although it was not a specific design. Each piece, although a uniform size and shape, was unique - as it was decorated using leaf impressions which were pressed into the clay and then hand painted freestyle.
History ~
Impressed marks to base, number 1371, and incised monogram M B. This is the signature of Maud Bowden, who was a highly respected designer at Doulton, working there from 1903 to 1937. Each of the leading artists had their own signature style.
