A pair of large antique Georgian 18th-century pewter Chargers
£ 150.00
A pair of large Georgian pewter chargers, with lots of character. Over centuries the surface has softened down to create a mottled grey appearance. Made in a simple design, with a broad rim that gives way to the bouge, which leads to the flat central base of the charger. Faded touch mark present on one of the pair - X W (or V) M P
History ~ 18th century. Pewter dishes and chargers were produced in large numbers between 1650 and 1780 and were used by all sectors of English society, replacing wooden plates, or 'trenchers'.
Condition ~ Good antique condition, no splits or repairs. Plenty of signs of use and wear, scratches and variations in colour.
