A large Georgian pewter charger, with good and distinctive detailing. Designed with a broad flat rim that gives way to an unusual hand beaten bouge, and then on to the flat central base of the charger. Touch mark on the base is marked M D R.
History ~ 18th century. Pewter dishes and chargers were produced in large numbers between 1650 and 1780 and were used by all sectors of English society, replacing wooden plates, or 'trenchers'.
Condition ~ Good antique condition, no splits or repairs. Plenty of signs of use and wear, scratches and variations in colour.
