A striking and boldly painted antique oil painting showing a portrait in profile of a young French man. Painted with clear and confident brush strokes the painting has a sense of dynamism and a feeling that the sitter was a strong character.
We get a tiny glimpse into who the young man actually was by the inscription verso ‘Portrait from Madame Gabriel Marchant (Gbrielle Frenay) of PAUL DODOZ when he was 18 years old. This portrait must be returned back to Miss Finette Chevret’.
History ~ Mid 19th century, France.
Condition ~ There is one historic repair to the canvas and the frame is not original.
