19th century decorative antique copper Art Nouveau Coal Scuttle
£ 220.00
19th century decorative Coal Scuttle or Coal Bucket. Well designed - combining practicallity with decorative appeal. The wide mouth and pointed lip ensured the coal could be easily scooped and then poured, whilst the brass handles to the sides enabled the bucket to be held securely. The coal bucket has a wonderful hammered copper finish in a wide curved design. The coal scuttle has acquired a lovely mellow patina over time giving it a warm appearance, it is now an appealing decorative antique.
History ~ Made by WilliamSoutter & Sons, Co, founded in Birmingham during the 1870s. (The company was an amalgamation of Soutter & Hicks, which dated from 1760). Originally William Soutter & Sons produced plumbers’ brassware but then went on to produce quality domestic wares in copper and brass - such as kettles, tea urns, jardinières and coal scuttles. Sadly the business closed in 1927.
