19th century antique copper Cauldron or Log Basket

£ 480.00
A decorative antique cauldron which could now be used as a Log Basket. It is made from a substantial and heavy piece of copper, which has been hand beaten to produce a subtle mottled effect, having aged down over many years. The handles are particularly attractive, being hand forged in large loop designs, with a distinctive naive indented decoration to them. There are two lines of parallel strap work down each side. The copper has been lightly polished in the past and retains a bright colour without appearing to be over-polished.

History ~
Traditionally used for cooking or heating water over a fire.
Circa 1850, France or North Africa.

Condition ~
Good antique condition, strong and sturdy, the base has one small area where it has been patched with another piece of copper, as shown in the images.
