A collection of 12 antique ceramic Sarreguemines majolica dessert plates. This decorative antique pottery is distinct for its colourful and boldly glazed earthenware designs, featuring relief molded impressions of various fruits.

2 - strawberry design
These patterns were some of the most popular of the Sarreguemine range, and became synonymous with its style, (although Sarreguemines also produced a variety of majolica tureens, vases, asparagus items and figural pieces).
History ~
1950s, France.
The pottery was originally established in 1784, by brothers Nicholas-Henri and Paul-Augustin Jacobi and partner Joseph Fabry but it was not until the arrival of Paul Utzschneider, who assumed management in 1800, that it became successful. The Sarreguemines factory produced most of the original tiles used during the construction of the Paris metro. Majolica was added to its production in the 1860s.
At the conclusion of the Franco-Prussian War in 1874, Sarreguemines became German territory. Production continued for many years, with various innovations but also difficulties and the factory changed hands several times. In 1978, the group Lunéville-Badonviller-Saint-Clément bought the factory. This was a decisive factor for the history of the faience of Sarreguemines: the production of crockery was stopped in 1979 and the factory concentrated on the production of floor and wall tiles. Sarreguemines ceased production in 2007 when the firm was disbanded.

Condition ~
Good antique condition, no chips or cracks, minimal signs of wear. This collection has been put together over time, the plates have various marks on the back differentiating their production dates.
